October 5 - College Day- Why Do We Talk about That?
The first Friday of each month is COLLEGE DAY. Students and staff wear their favorite college gear to celebrate knowledge. A different school of higher knowledge is highlighted by a staff member over our morning broadcast. Usually, the staff member is an alumnus of that school. College Day is a fun way to create a positive mindset for a life-time of learning in our students.
As you enter our school’s main hallway you will notice a row of college and university flags dangling down form high above. These are constant reminders that Cabaniss Elementary school supports higher learning. We release that college may not be for every person, but most will benefit from the rigorous learning opportunity. The reason we have College Day and keep the flags flying high is too make the idea of education a part of their lives. Many Title One students do not come from a heritage of higher learning. Their parents may not have attended college and may not talk about such lofty goals. We want to make the idea of going to college a natural part of student thinking. This way, they can have a choice as they pick a career pathway.
